The North East and North Cumbria Bone and Joint Infection Network includes a number of units that treat bone and joint infection. This group of hospitals formed a network 5 years ago, and meet to discuss and improve standards for these patients.
There are currently two Periprosthetic Infection Multi Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) that provide access to MDT discussions for clinicians across the North East and North Cumbria. These are held in Northumbria NHS trust and South Tees NHS trust.
Northumbria PJI MDT Meeting This meeting is held every Friday morning at 8:45am at the Wansbeck Hospital Bone Infection Unit. Please refer patients via Wansbeck Hospital and Bone Infection here.
South Tees PJI MDT Meeting The meeting is held on Monday every 2 weeks from 12:30-13:30 in the South Tees Research and Innovation Centre (STRIVE), James Cook Hospital.
The network have agreed the following policy: Surgical treatment for periprosthetic joint infection will only be funded in accordance with the following criteria:
- This patient has been discussed and documented (or if urgent, will be within 10 days of surgery) in a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting, consisting of; at least 2 surgeons, and at least 1 microbiologist or infectious disease consultant.
AND
- The case and subsequent related procedures will be recorded on the national Bone and Joint Infection Registry.
